I too have done some research, and found that IIS 6 (Windows 2003 server) has Parent browsing disabled as default. IIS 5 has not. I uploaded the component to two servers, one running IIS 6 and the other running IIS 5 - and it worked perfectly on IIS 5.

Parent Paths allows you to use '..' in calls to MapPath and the like. By default this option is enabled. But some hosts disable this for security reason.
CuteEditor for ASP uses the '..' in the version 3.0. We noticed this is a HIGH priority issue for many users. I hope we can find a solution by tomorrow. ...

Major disappointment. Just purchased the CuteEditor for ASP component, and uploaded it. Found that the popups show no content. As my site is hosted, I dont have access to set special IIS settings, and it would be no more than resonable to assume, that the product should work with IIS default settings.
