Preserving white space in the markup

I apologize if this topic has come up before. In fact, I may have asked it before myself ;o)

That said, I can't find anything via the search tool.

My question is if there is a setting/workaround to preserve my html formatting. If I edit my HTML, flip to PREVIEW, and flip back, my markup has lost all of it's formatting (space indents, extra line breaks, etc.)

This makes it a VERY hard tool to use for hand-coding HTML. Right now, I have to copy into Dreamweaver, apply source formatting, make my changes, paste back, and repeat as necessary.

Yep...you have been there before. I also use a similar routine of copying and pasting...
