How to select a tag in javascript ?

Hello,

I have a custom button to add a link, and i want the user to be able to edit his link with my custom button also.

I managed to get the element he wants to edit (editor.SearchSelectionElement('A')), when he simply has the cursor on the link, without selecting the whole link.

But after modifying the link, i use the PasteHTML method but it only replaces the selected text, and then insert a new link.

How can i select the entire element, to replace it ?

Or should i remove it, but how ?

For the link, you need to use another method, GetSelectionElement(tagname). But this method is a private method.

Thanks for your response, Adam, but i think my question wasn't clear.

My call to SearchSelectionElement just works fine.

So why should i use GetSelectionElement(tagname) ?

My problem is to replace or remove this element, when the user edits an existing link, without selecting anything.

When the user validates his changes, i use pasteHTML, and it replaces only the selection. So it creates a new link.

How can i extend the selection to the entire element, so that my pasteHTML replaces the previous link ?

Try use the innerHTML method.

va a = editor.SearchSelectionElement('A');

a.innerHTML = "SomeText";

OK i update the modified tag attributes : target, href, id.

It works fine.
