I, like many of you in this forum I'm sure, have spent a long time searching for the right wysiwyg editor. As you may know, there are dozens, if not hundreds of them out there. So far I have yet to find the "perfect" editor. If I could somehow combine the functions of several editors I'd be in business.
The cuteEditor is by far the best editor in terms of compatibility and features. The image insert dialogs are great. The ease of configuration is nice too. However, the editor itself, as far as wysiwyg editing goes is sadly lacking.
The html that is generated by this control is not very clean, and does not seem to be standards compliant. It does not function quite like a word editor. For example, try to turn one paragraph into two paragraphs, or a paragraph and a heading. Good luck, unless you manually edit the html it is not going to happen. It will look like two paragraphs, but try to change the font of the second paragraph, and it changes the font for both, try to center just the heading and it centers the heading and the paragraph. Basically this control is great for ENTERING text and formatting as you go. But it does not work very well for EDITING text.
I have tried to point this out as a bug to CuteSoft, but they have told me that this is by design, which is just ridiculous. As a developer I know exactly what that means: It mean "oops we designed this thing with a bug, but we can't admit it so lets call it a feature". That attitude, and that bug make this control useless. If you cannot EDIT mistakes you have made how can this control be called an EDITOR????????
If you are looking for an editor that creates cleanly formatted, standards compliant html try the InnovaEditor from innovasoft. Unfortunately the advanced functions of the InnovaEditor pale in comparison to the CuteSoft editor. I wish I could combine the editing capability of the Innovasoft editor with the great advanced features of the cutesoft editor...then I would have my cake and eat it too!
By the way, if CuteSoft was to make their editor work as cleanly as the Innova Editor works, I would gladly pay $500 or more for the control. That is probably the main problem with CuteEditor- it is too inexpensive for them to warrant making it perfect. It is wysiwyg, but it is also sold "as is", like a used car with a bad radiator.
