We need to save the uploaded images to another server, our application server, as opposed to our web server. 

I’ve seen several questions posted regarding using a physical path to specify the Image gallery path. The answer to these posts is, “When use the physical path to specify the Image gallery path, the physical path must be part of the current web site. “   (http://cutesoft.net/forums/12495/ShowPost.aspx)

 Is there a work around to this? Can I customize some server script to point to an upload folder on another server?
