No tools in the toolbars - JavaScript is enabled

Hi there,

We have CuteEditor 6 implemented in our VB.Net 1.1 app, and one of our clients is reporting she cannot see any icons on the CuteEditor tool bars.

She is using IE 6.028 and her security settings are set by clicking the "Default" button in IE. JavaScript is enabled.

She sent us the following screenshot:

We cannot reproduce this error in the office with IE6, IE7 or FireFox, and so we're completely stuck with what could be going on.

The code used to prime the control is as follows:

Could you tell me what I can do to stop this happening for our client?

I don't have any clue.

Can you let this client clear the browser cache and try again?

Thanks Adam,

I guided the client through clearing her cache today, including all offline content, but it didn't help. She's still got no tools in her toolbar.

Is there anything else I can try?

Hi Adam - are you looking into this? We desperately need support to get our client up and running using this control.

Is anyone else from the community able to help?

Adam,

She's experiencing the same problem with the editor on your site - I asked her to send me a screenshot:

This would suggest to me that is an issue with the control rather than the way we've used it in our site. Any ideas?

Let your client try the following steps:

Go to Tools--> Internet Options-->Security, then choose "default level". Then try again.

Let your client try the following steps:

Go to Tools--> Internet Options-->Advanced, then choose "restore defaults". Then try again.

For for the delay in reply - I've been away for the past week.

I've asked my client to try this, but it hasn't helped. Any other suggestions?

I have no idea now.

Is that possible for us take over the control to that machine remotely using sofatware like GotoMeeting?

Sorry should have realised i have this problem exactly......

And my solution......

Was to add a link to the page which takes the user to another page. On the new page it has one line of javascript which says "history.go(-1)". Lo and behold the controls appear! You can test this manually....

1. Open the editor http://cutesoft.net/example/general.aspx (no toolbar appears)

2. type in the URL http://www.bbc.co.uk (or any url) and hit enter

3. Click back in the browser.

4. Your toolbar will appear as if by magic and you can edit the page!

My guess is that on some browsers, some of the time, cos it only needs this occasionally on some of our machines, the code trys to run before certain bits have downloaded or initialised. I did raise this with cutesoft, but it seemed to get lost and was never solved properly, my solution is a fudge for our minority of editors that have the problem.

However even this may not solve your problems!!

Maybe you are having javascript errors. Does your browser stop on every error with a dialog box? If not turn on "display a notification for javascript errors". I always have this switched altho it can be very annoying when browsing the web, because you wouldnt believe how many sites have javascript errors!

Andy - thanks for your reply; I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

My client informed me today she'll be upgrading her hardware very soon anyway, so a solution to this problem is not as urgent as it once was. She seems to think that it only affects IE v6.0.2800.1106.

As such, I won't be able to relay any more feedback from her as to whether example pages work; things to try etc, so I won't be able to post any leads.
