DNN Integration and I am extremely disappointed about CuteChat

I have already told Adam in a private chat months ago but there is no integration in DNN at all. I don't want to load CuteChat in an IFrame, I want it to behave like any other Dotnetnuke module and stick to the security roles in Dotnetnuke.

I have installed the trial on my production site but if the above is not realised within 1 month I will move on to another solution.

Re: DNN Integration and I am extremely disappointed about CuteChat

    Hi Terry,

    OK, here we go:
    1. This is not top priority but CuteChat should install like any other DNN Module. The way it is done now is far from user friendly. Take a look here http://www.dotnetnuke.com/About/DotNetNukeOnlineHelp/tabid/787/TID/1406/cid/114/Default.aspx.
    2. On http://dnn3.cutesoft.net/DesktopModules/CuteSoft_Client/CuteChat/CH_MainForm.Aspx?Location=Lobby&LocationId=3 CuteChat opens in a new outside of DNN. Adam suggested I put that in an IFrame. I want to add a channel/room just like any other module on a tab in DNN and I want DNN to control security on that channel/room. It should be impossible to access any channels/rooms outside DNN. If I put http://dnn3.cutesoft.net/DesktopModules/CuteSoft_Client/CuteChat/CH_MainForm.Aspx?Location=Lobby&LocationId=3 in an IFrame I can still access that room outside of DNN.
    3. As an example I have a screenshot of how security has been done in ActiveForums:

As you see all roles in DNN show up and per forum I can set what is allowed or not. I want to that also for CuteChat, that is integration in DNN!
I sure hope that you make CuteChat fully integrated in Dotnetnuke, especially when it comes to the roles. And I don't want to edit some kind of vb file to get what I want. Adam should have a copy of ActiveForums, have a look at that.

    Regards
    Mariette

    Adam,

Please, be aware about the fact that there is a huge difference between Dotnetnuke 3.3.x/4.3.x and previous versions when it comes to the implementation of roles and security. What works in 3.2.2/4.0.3 will not work in the latest version.

    Mariette,

    Thanks for the information.

The integration guide will be based on DNN 4.3.x and 3.3.x.

Re: DNN Integration and I am extremely disappointed about CuteChat

    Hi, Adam:

We have tried to install the new version you have released just two hours ago in a DNN 4.3.4 portal version but it doesn't seem to work. After download the zip we have followed the steps:
    1.- change web.config
2.- install module with host user, it seems to install ok, the process finish right
3.- copy the three files into the folders you told

but when we try to "add" the installed module in any page, DNN shows an error:

    A critical error has occurred.
Attempt to access the method failed.

This is the result with the four modules. Even the name of the module appears on the page, but nothing else can be done.

    Any ideas about it?

    Thanks in advance.

Re: DNN Integration and I am extremely disappointed about CuteChat

I have the module working but it does not use DNN security. I can create an embedded module, set permissions on that module but I can still access it like this: http://dev.smallbizserver.net/DesktopModules/CuteSoft_Client/CuteChat/CH_MainForm.Aspx?Location=Lobby&LocationId=9.

Guys, you don't understand Dotnetnuke at all...I am moving on.

Can you login as admin, go to "log viewer" and find out the error details?

Re: DNN Integration and I am extremely disappointed about CuteChat

    Adam:
    lartec,

Can you login as admin, go to "log viewer" and find out the error details?
This problem is solved now. We have change the trust level to full (we have high). This was a requirement installing version 3.0 of the chat, as we have seen searching installation guides, but in the guide for 3.1 nothing is said about it.

Now we get another problem.  As host user, no problems seems to appear. I can add the four modules and they work fine.
But when another user is logged in as admin or normal user then some problems appears. The main problem is the same that some other forumers told in this thread: http://cutesoft.net/forums/thread/20130.aspx
In the log viewer, the problem shown is that DNN can't find a javascript unit called "utility.js". Here is the code (that problems occurs with a normal user, not with the host user)

Message: System.Exception: Unhandled Error: ---> System.Web.HttpException: The file '/DesktopModules/CuteSoft_Client/CuteChat/Admin/utility.js.aspx' does not exist. at System.Web.UI.Util.CheckVirtualFileExists(VirtualPath virtualPath) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultInternal(VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVPathBuildResultWithNoAssert(HttpContext context, VirtualPath virtualPath, Boolean noBuild, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean allowBuildInPrecompile) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetVirtualPathObjectFactory(VirtualPath virtualPath, HttpContext context, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean noAssert) at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath(VirtualPath virtualPath, Type requiredBaseType, HttpContext context, Boolean allowCrossApp, Boolean noAssert) at System.Web.UI.PageHandlerFactory.GetHandlerHelper(HttpContext context, String requestType, VirtualPath virtualPath, String physicalPath) at System.Web.UI.PageHandlerFactory.System.Web.IHttpHandlerFactory2.GetHandler(HttpContext context, String requestType, VirtualPath virtualPath, String physicalPath) at System.Web.HttpApplication.MapHttpHandler(HttpContext context, String requestType, VirtualPath path, String pathTranslated, Boolean useAppConfig) at System.Web.HttpApplication.MapHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Also, with admin user log in (or with other users), sometimes the session tracking fails and we get log out when we click in the page where the module is added. I don't know if this is a problem relationed with the main problem.

    Thanks for your time, Adam.

Is your site online so you can send the FTP access to me? I will check your site. I can't reproduce this issue here.

Hi, Adam, I'm sorry but the site is still under development and there is no way to give access to you. Just remember that the problem is the same that two forumers tell here if this helps you: http://cutesoft.net/forums/thread/20130.aspx (I see that you haven't given an answer on this thread, maybe not readen). A sequence of javascript errors and if you see the log it says that this javascript file is needed. Important: I can't find this file "utility.js" at any place of the zip. Nothing wrong with that? Am I missing something?

    Thanks anyway, Adam.

Re: DNN Integration and I am extremely disappointed about CuteChat

    Hi lartec,

My problem was solved when I found a bug on my implementation the GetUserDisplayName interface which is necessary for the integration package to work. I dont know if this is similar on DNN...

    Maybe this helps.

    Hi, rcarrillo:
Yes, it seems that the DNN (or .NET) user administration is the root of our problem.

    @Adam:

I have tried to reach the exact code line where the application fails and now I'm almost sure that the problem is that a normal user (not host user) of DNN can "execute" the file Settings.js.aspx.

When the application (logged as a normal user) executes EmbedChannel.ascx and it calls some others files using scripts, the application doesn't get into Settings.js.aspx (when the user is the HOST, the application "reads" Settings.js.aspx without problems), so it can't get __cc_urlbase value and others and here comes the crash.

If you don't reproduce the error into a DNN portal it seems that the problem is some user permissions of our site, but I don't know if there is the configuration of DNN or it's at .NET level... By the way, the DNN user module that we use is the core module, so there must be no problem with that.

Anybody has solved some similar problem? We can't go further than this point now.

    Thanks to all.
