Support for Safari (Mac OS X)

Does the latest version of Cute Chat fully support Mac OS X? The CuteSoft's demo page for Cute Chat displays a blank page when viewed from Safari.

I have a client who's interested in Cute Chat ONLY if Safari is fully supported. Safari is the most widely used Mac OS X web browser, but it's missing from the list of supported browsers.

BTW I also sent this question directly to CuteSoft, no reply so far. I guess I'm getting a taste of customer support?

The safari users should get a simple UI instead of the Rich UI. With the simple UI, the page will refresh when post back to the server.

But it works.

We will investigate this issue and get back to you as soon as possible.

Adam, I appreciate your reply. I'm looking forward to the moment I can test the online chat demo again.

By the way, if the component supports Safari, why are you hiding this fact from the system requirements list? Why not update the spec?

Internet Explorer 5.5+ Netscape 7.1+ Mozilla 1.4+ Firefox 0.7+ Or any browser based on Mozilla 1.4+	Netscape 7.1+ Mozilla 1.4+ Firefox 0.7+ Or any browser based on Mozilla 1.4+

The above list only contains the browsers which support (Ajax or XMLHTTP + DHTML).

The down level browsers is not included. However we create a simple UI to handle this situation. Less features, page refresh, it just works...

According to the link below XmlHttpRequest is included in Safari starting with version 1.2:

Safari also supports DHTML and HTML 4.01, according to this FAQ:

http://developer.apple.com/internet/safari/faq.html

From the links above it seems Safari supports Ajax technologies. In fact Microsoft's Atlas framework is supposed to fully support Safari.

This makes me think that calling Safari a down level browser is not exactly true. Am I wrong?

Perhaps it is better to target 2.0.1 and newer releases of Safari?

As the author of the blog mentions, "Safari 2.0.1 seems to now include both the DOMParser and XMLSerializer classes that Mozilla implements. Looks like some of the last chinks in Safari’s Ajax armor are finally fixed"

We've worked the support for safari 1.3 + for a long time. There are many problems we can't resolved.

You can right. It's a good idea to target 2.0.1.

Any update on the issue with your online demo? Did you modify/fix anything?

My client is waiting to test again. If he still gets blank screen from his Safari before end of today (PST), we're definitely going with a chat component from a different vendor.

Your chat definitely doesn't work in Safari 1.4. Actual chat produces a blank page, here is a screenshot:

My suggestion is:

1) stop telling customers that your component "should work" with Safari, because it doesn't,

2) fix it,

3) test it.

Yes, that's a bug.

We will fix it in the version 3.0. We will offer free upgrade to the exisitng customers. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The version 3.0 will be available in December.

We've been working on the version 3.0 since March.
