To clarify,
this issue is resolved by wrapping a <div> around the php in the demo2 file. It is a bug in Firefox.

It could be a permission issue.
If you are sure you set the permission of this image gallery folder correct, you need to check
DOCUMENT_ROOT
Try
echo $DOCUMENT_ROOT
If you get nothing, you have to check your PHP installation.
