I'm not sure where to go from here, but I've had other people in my office test pasting the embed code I included above on your general.apsx page, and it's not working for any of us.  The general.aspx page does behave slightly differently in that when the end </embed> tag is removed, it puts in its place: <!-- embed-->  I can attach screen shots if needed.
