Special characters (entered via the Special Characters button - omega symbol) are not always converted to HTML entities.  e.g. the symbol for the British Pound £ should be encoded £ in the HTML but in actual fact is not encoded at all.  There are many (if not most) other characters that can be inserted via this Special Characters button that are similarly not encoded even though an HTML entity encoding exists as per http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_entities.asp
