Why would eval(scriptcode); cause such large memory usage (and take such a long time to run)?

Ideas on how to fix?

This is not consistent.. But frequent.

Figured out this problem...

It was due to Firefox's debugger which used a fair amount of memory interpreting the eval when loading Cutesoft's JS implementation file.

It's a non-issue for your product.
