Hi:

Apologies if this has already been asked, I've had a good look and can't find anything to help...

I've been seeing how the editor would handle using BR for the breakelement, and while this appears to work fine in Firefox it doesn't let me apply styles when viewing the editor in IE. For example, I write some heading text and apply a paragraph style to it. Then when I go onto the new line I want the text to be "normal" and not the heading text style. But applying the style (or changing it) applies the style to the heading and the text underneath it.

I've looked at the html and it's wrapping the entire text in <h1> tags, when I only want it to wrap the heading.

Would I be better off using the inline styles in this case?

Uses the DIV breakelement and not the BR breakelement I need to test the example.

Hi again:

It still happens in the example you've provided.

Here's what I do. I go to the editor, and type "Heading 1". Then I highlight this and select heading 1 from the paragraph dropdown menu. Then I press return and drop on to the next line and continue typing. This text is formatted as heading 1 (as expected), but when I try to change the text under the heading I highlight it and select normal from the paragraph dropdown. This then changes all of the text (heading and sub-text).

I've checked the HTML and it's outputting the following:

<h1>Heading 1<br> This is some test text.</h1>

So it's wrapping the H1 tags around all of the text when I only want it around the "Heading 1" text. Even if I try highlighting the "Heading 1" text and changing just the style of that it changes the style of all of the text.

Am I doing something out of sequence? As this is how I would use Word, and how I naturally use the editor.

Which BeakElement are you using? Can you change it to <DIV>?

Hi Adam, I get the same behaviour using Br as the break element. If you go to the oncarriagereturn example you posted and set the break element to Br, then type: line 1 <carriage return> line 2 <carriage return> line 3 etc, then select line one and apply a paragraph setting, eg Heading1, then all lines are converted, not just the first. Also, all lines underneath the first are being inset by one space.

Hi Adam:

I've tested all three break elements with the intended destination for the HTML generated by the editor and the BR tag works best. Also, as Gecko based browsers only use BR we're trying to keep the results as consistent as possible regardless of which browser the user uses.

Are you able to reproduce the problem?

Hi Adam, is the oncarriagereturn example using the latest build? Still seems to be giving the same result as before. Here's a series of snapshots to illustrate what I'm getting: Break element is set to Br and a paragraph style of heading 2 is applied to the first of the three lines. also notice that lines two and three have been inset by one character space, i didn't do this, it happened automatically when I hit return each time.

Hi Adam:

Sorry for the delay in my reply (I've been on holiday).

The link you posted leads me to an editor that uses the DIV breakelement. I'm using the BR breakelement.

Just to be sure I tried the BreakElement example and the problem still exists. Have I missed something and am doing something wrong?
