Does anyone have an idea about a fix for what I reported above?   getSelection doesn't have an easy way to check for the selection type (None, Text or Control) and that check is performed in various places in the editor source code. 

Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to, since a consulting firm is rewriting out site and I don't have access to all of the code. I will see if I can reproduce this issue in a dummy MVC/Classic ASP project and get back to you later.

When I use the toolbar Copy button or the Context menu Copy option, I receive an alert to use CTRL+C to copy text. Why and how can it be resolved?   Note, this happens in your live demo too.
