IE 9 and Chrome still work correctly.

here's the aspx:

            onuploadcompleted="fileUploader_UploadCompleted"

            <ValidateOption EnableMimetypeChecking="False" AllowedFileMimeTypes=""></ValidateOption>

        </cc1:Uploader>

        <button class="btn-new" id="bnNew">Add Files</button>

the bnNew isn't browsing and the uploader is actually showing up.  On IE 9 and Chrome, the control is hidden and the button does the browse.

I think I'm using the latest version.  

What am I doing wrong?

The latest build is not v1.1 compatible.  Do you have v1.1. build?

The ajaxUploader does not support .net framework 1.1. Sorry for your inconvenience.

Unfortunately upgrading the system is really expensive to my client.  Is there a workaround?

The uploader functions are based on .net framework 2.0+. So must use it with 2.0+ framework.
