If you upload a file such as "myWordDoc..doc" the editor throws an exception. I confirmed this on your demo. If the file already exists on the server you cannot modify it in anyway without throwing the exception. This must be new behavior because all the files in my directory in question were uploaded through the editor. I recently updated from 5.0 to 5.2
