    Web Messenger 5.. Documentation??

I can't seem to locate the developers documentation for version 5. The help file that came with the download appears to be the same as version 4.

I have managed to guess my way through integration, but now I can't seem to get the webcam side working. It keeps telling me that "THe video server is unavailable"
How do I set up the video server? Thanks

    Download the package below

It contain a file name 'Video streaming.txt', the file will tell you how to enable video streaming in Cute Chat / Web Messenger

    Re: Web Messenger 5.. Documentation??

    Hi Ken,

Thanks for pointing that out. I missed seeing that file.
I have followed the instructions in the file, plus the instructions on http://manojnagdev.wordpress.com/2007/02/16/simple-steps-to-configure-red5-on-windows/ telling me how to set up the RED5 installation.
That all seems to be working well.
However when I click the Webcam icon in CuteMessenger, a little dialog window pops up with a blank white screen. If I right click I can choose a number of flash settings, but it still isn't displaying a webcam image.
I suspect it might be my setting in the CuteChat config (Functionalities, Flash Video Chat Server). I have this folder pointing to /cutechat which is a folder residing in the RED5 webapps folder.

    What have I missed?

    Thanks
    DJ

    ==============================================================
How to enable video streaming in Cute Chat / Web Messenger
    ==============================================================
    Step 1. Install video server
Option 1: Streaming with Flash Media Server

    1. Download and install FMS. You can get it from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediastreaming/. There is also a free developer edition to get you started.
    2. Create a folder called "CuteChat" under the FMS application folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flash Media Server 3\applications\CuteChat)

Option 2: Streaming with RED5 (open source)

    1. Download and install RED5 (http://osflash.org/red5).
    2. Create a folder called "CuteChat" under the RED webapps folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Red5\webapps\CuteChat).
    Step 2.

Open the CuteChat admin tool (e.g. http://localhost/SamplePortal/CuteSoft_Client/CuteChat/ChatAdmin/).
Log in (by default the username and password are "admin").

In the "Configuration" tab and enable the "Enable Video Chat" option.

Specify the url to video server in the "Flash Vedio/Audio Chat Server" field (e.g. /CuteChat).

That's it! Now you should be able to send and receive video chats.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just out of curiosity... Do I actually need to put anything in the /CuteChat folder created in the webapps folder or an empty folder is OK?
Any security permissions that we need to set on the folder?

    Re: Web Messenger 5.. Documentation??

Thank you for all the replies and help (sarcasm there)

For those of you trying as I have been trying to get Webcam working, there are SOO many steps that aren't included in the video.txt file that is in the download.

If you are thinking of using RED5 (because the system requirements for CuteChat/WebMessenger never said we need FMS, infact no mention is made at all about requirements for getting the video up and running)

Anyway, for RED5 you will need
    Ant
    Java JDK
And a bit of patience to set it up.
I no way is the supplied documentation of any use at all, if anything it is miss-guiding and way over-simplified.
I like these guys products, but from the last time I purchased something to now, their support seems to have slipped.
Adam, where are you these days?
If you plan on running webcam on the same box as your website (and why not) then you are in for more hassles.
You will need a second IP address for the RED5 server to run on...

I will be writing up full instructions on how to get Webcam chat working with RED5 and running it on the same server as your IIS site .

I'll update this post shortly with a link to the full instructions.
As of now.. No I haven't actually got it working to a bug in the Functionality section of the Webchat admin.

    Re: Web Messenger 5.. Documentation??

The support on the web messenger product seems to be very weak. I'd really like to buy a 3rd party chat client, and this seems to be the only real option, but after downloading the trial I have to say that I would have spent the extra day or two in order to provide a good SDK and documentation.

I hope that the authors of this product will allow some community contribution to make it more robust.
