    Serious Problem with Firefox

With the latest version of Firefox, and all Add-ons disabled, I'm seeing very strange behavior when pasting text into the CE and then making edits thereafter. Version of CE is 6.4.

In the video below, I paste text into the demo. The text has been pasted from an Outlook Express email message into Notepad and then copied from Notepad into the CE so that junk HTML is stripped off before pasting.

Note how once I've pasted the text into CE, when I try to insert newlines via the Enter key, I get very strange results.

On another important note, I was not able to insert the above video into this forum post under Firefox, so I abandoned my attempts and switched to IE. Firefox version is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729), with no add-ons enabled.

Assuming these issues are truly CE issues and not issue with my browser, when these issues are fixed, I would very much appreciate knowing when a fixed version of CE is available in the download area.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Kazzlo

    Hi Ken,

If you click the video's play button in the original post and then click on the video while it's playing, the video can be viewed in full screen mode. At least this works for me. Are you able to do the same? This is 100% repeatable on your demo page under Firefox.

    Bill

    Re: Serious Problem with Firefox

i'm seeing the same problems with firefox 2 and 3, safari and chrome. paste or even type text into the editor, then go back to the middle of a para and hit return. all the following html gets messed up. this is universal across both my own implementation of cuteeditor 6.4 asp.net version, and the demo version on cutesoft site.

the problem doesn't occur when using IE.

i've tried setting the para tag (editor.breakelement) to P and this doesn't help. it looks like the closing and opening tags for new para's get put in the wrong place, and other tags get stripped out. haven't examined it in detail yet.

serious issue, tho i'm at a loss to understand why no one else has spotted it yet. i downloaded the trial version 6.4 about two days ago - perhaps a recent update?

    Re: Serious Problem with Firefox

hmm - sorry, should have tried this earlier. tried setting breakelement to Br and this relieves the issue in firefox and safari. definately a bug tho.

    Re: Serious Problem with Firefox

    Hi Guys,

As far as I know, this is one of your most serious bugs and I still see the issue in the most recent version of CE with all versions of Firefox that I've tried.. Do you intend to fix this bug? It would be great if you could fix it for V6.5.

    Thanks,
    Kazzlo

P.S. I've confirmed this fix on the CuteSoft DEMO page. Is the DEMO now at a version of V6.5?

    Thanks again,

    Re: Serious Problem with Firefox

    Hi Guys,

This problem seems to have resurfaced with the latest build.

Example: type a paragraph of text on the demo page, then click somewhere in the middle of the just-entered text and hit enter a couple of times to insert a paragraph break. Upon doing so, the text and associated HTML becomes jumbled. Just like before..

Seen on Firefox, but presumably this issue also exists on other non-IE browsers like oor_wullie reported previously.

    Kazzlo

    Re: Serious Problem with Firefox

    Hi kazzlo,

In the new version(6.5) I can not reproduce this issue.

I tested on firefox 2.0-3.51 with vista and xp.

If you can send me a video to show your issue, it will be very helphul to fix the issue.

    Re: Serious Problem with Firefox

    Hi Ken,
I sent you an email with the video that I've uploaded below.

I pasted text from this URL (http://www.projectrespond.org/environmental-blog.aspx) into the CuteSoft demo, but could have taken it from just about any other page. Note how the video shows the text and associated HTML getting garbled when inserting new lines.  My version of Firefox is fully up to date:  Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091102 Firefox/3.5.5

Here's the actual HTML from the referenced projectrespond.org page:

<div><img height="400" alt="Smokestack Emissions" hspace="8" src="http://cutesoft.net/upload/Articles/2/ocean power plant.jpg" width="267" align="right" vspace="6" border="0" /> It's Halloween, and what could be scarier than ocean acidification, which threatens to destroy ocean ecosystems around the world? The ocean absorbs an estimated one quarter of all CO2 produced by burning fossil fuels, adding up to a huge amount since the beginning of the industrial revolution. In a way this is fortunate because, if it were not for our oceans, global warming would have already progressed much further.</div>
    <div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>Unfortunately, carbon dioxide does not stop causing problems after the ocean absorbs it. Dissolved CO2 reacts with water molecules to form carbonic acid, lowering the pH of the ocean. Since the dawn of the industrial revolution, the pH of our oceans has dropped by about 0.075 units on the pH scale. This seems miniscule, but because the scale is logarithmic this translates into a decrease of nearly 20%. Scientists warn that the <a title="Wikipedia Article" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_acidification#Acidification" target="_self">pH could drop another 0.5 units</a> by 2050.</div>
    <div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>A more acidic ocean could potentially damage all kinds of sea life, but shelled organisms are especially at risk. Every creature with a calcium shell, from sea coral to quahogs, would have its shell weakened, putting a vast number of species at risk of extinction. I can't imagine a visit to the ocean without this diverse category of sea life, not to mention the effect that a die-off would have upon economies around the world.</div>
    <div>&nbsp;</div>
<div>There are potential ways to help reverse this disturbing trend, but they are expensive and difficult to execute (think dropping millions of tons of limestone into the ocean). The best way to address this problem is to reduce worldwide CO2 emissions immediately. <a title="Climate Deal Must Cover Acid Oceans, World Scientists Urge" href="http://www.ens-newswire.com/ens/jun2009/2009-06-01-01.asp" target="_self">Scientists are urging</a> the United Nations Copenhagen Climate Conference scheduled for December to consider acidification in any regulations to be passed.</div>
    <div>&nbsp;</div>
    <div><a title="Ocean Acidification" href="http://www.ocean-acidification.net/" target="_self">Here is a site dedicated to this important issue</a> </div>

    Re: Serious Problem with Firefox

    Hi Ken,

I noticed that with the latest CuteEditor build, this problem still persists.
See video. Hopefully, you'll be able to resolve it soon.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Here's the HTML that I used. Note how the links are lost. I've seen other similar behaviors with the latest build as well (under Firefox, but not IE)..
