Cleaning smart tags when pasting from MS-Word

We have experienced some occasional difficulties when pasting in Word documents where the resulting XHTML does not validate. We have concluded that the source of these difficulties are the "smart tags" that Word embeds in the document.
(These are of the form: <?xml:namespace prefix=st1 ><st1:City w:st> ... )

Now, the onpaste event calls the oneditorpaste( string ) function in WinIE.js.
In the onEditorPaste function the following line is commented out:

// sandbox.innerHTML = cleantool( sHTML ) ; removeword

and replaced with

sandbox.innerHTML = removeword( sHTML ) ;

the primary difference between the cleantool function and the removeword function, is that the removeword function does *not* remove smart tags (using the /<st1:.*?>/gi regex);

My question is: Why does the removeword function not remove smart tags?

I should have mentioned that I fixed the problem by altering the removeword function in the following manner:

function removeword(h)

h = h.replace(new RegExp("(<[^>]+) class=[^ |^>]*([^>]*>)", "ig"), "$1 $2");

h = h.replace(/(<[^>]+) style="[^"]*"([^>]*>)/ig, "$1 $2");

h = h.replace(/<span[^>]*><\/span[^>]*>/ig, "");

h = h.replace(/<span><span>/ig, "<span>");

h = h.replace(/<\/span><\/span>/ig, "</span>");

//CUSTOM

h = h.replace(/<st1:.*?>/gi, ""); // delete all smarttags

h = h.replace(/<\\?\??xml[^>]>/gi, "");

return h;

}

Hi,

Thanks for posting some code. I do not see a removeword function, instead I see _removeword and it is not in the cutesoft_client folder that is deployed to the individual web project. Instead it is in cuteeditorweb project which isnt even deployed. Thanks and I would appreciate any help you can provide. I have source code for version 5.0/

Adam,

Could you please help me a bit with this word thing. I am using the word cleanup option and also pass in the cute editor's xhtml property to a routine that basically loads the html into an xml document for me to parse the nodes and do some processing. As soon as the xmldocument is loaded, it gives errors due to namespaces being introduced from word. Is there any work around?

server side. I cant find a definition of the removeword or removewordtags (thats the closest I have in version 5.0). I have source code as well..

CleanUpHTMLCode	Use the Clean Up HTML function to remove empty tags, combine nested font tags, and otherwise improve messy or unreadable HTML code.
CleanUpMicrosoftWordHTML	Use the Clean Up Word HTML function to remove the extraneous HTML code generated by Microsoft Word.
