    Version 6.0 ??

I asked you about the upgrade to Version 6 a few months ago.  You mentioned that when you completed the .NET version, it would be about 1 month until you released the ASP version.

I noticed you have not completed the .NET v6 but are very close.  Do you still estimate December for the ASP version?  I need it very very bad!!!

    Re: Version 6.0 ??

Yes, would some one at CuteSoft please give some straight forward answers?

I have been following the version 6 release since July and CuteSoft seemed to have been very sure that it would be released at the end of September 2006. It is now end of December which makes me feel that CuteSoft is unreliable and is continuing to tell folks that it would be ok to develop on 5.3 and the upgrade will be seamless.

Well as we all know, that upgrades are rarely seamless and may have to recode a lot of our custom development to accommodate a newer version that may have numerous bugs coming out with the release.

Is there any reassurance in your mythical 6.0 release?

Need some feedback on this guys!!  I really really need the upgraded version.  I have some deadlines on our product developement and the only thing holding it up at this point is your new release of the editor.

Please give me some feedback on this!!

    Limbo,

Just a shot in the dark, but what functionality are you looking for in v6.0?  Perhaps we can get something working in v5.2 that would do the same thing?

    Re: Version 6.0 ??

I need the stuff like being able to right-click in a table and have a context menu come up with the options, and all the non-pop-up window type things that the .NET version already has.

Basically if it could work like the current .NET version that would be fine!

    Re: Version 6.0 ??

Ok, since I'm not on the development team and have no real say with them, this won't help much, but, for what its worth, here's my opinion:

The changes to make the ASP version the same as the .NET version would require quite a bit of code.  I understand your reasoning for it and agree completely with you as well as other reasons that would make the software more manageable.  I don't, however, believe their programmers care to take the time to make this happen.  Writing a simple right-click menu in ASP & Javascript is a much more complicated process than writing one in ASP.NET.  Unfortunately, I doubt they wish to take this plunge.  However, if they receive enough requests for such features, I could be quite wrong.

I wish to post here, for the CuteSoft staff to see, that I completely agree with making the .NET and ASP versions function exactly the same.  This would save both time (in training) and money (obviously, only in the long run, but if you make a more uniform product, you always cut costs).

    Just a thought...

    Re: Version 6.0 ??

Actually, adding a context menu is very easy these days in ASP.  It should be even easier than .NET.

As for will they do it?  The whole reason I posted this topic is the fact that Adam sent me the following message saying it would be in v6.
    --------------------------------------------------------

The trial version is only available to .net version. Context menus and inline table dropdown will be added to CuteEditor for ASP in major version 6.0 release. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Looks like they've released 6.0 for .NET!  Let's see if they keep their word with a 1-month lag and all of the feature inclusions.

    Re: Version 6.0 ??

I know it's not a great report, but I've been working with CE for a couple of years and now I've got a stable/decent version 5.02 working in IE/FF/Safari in Macintosh/Windows. It wasn't an easy path to reach this stage so I just think the version 6.0 is not fully ready yet. I can't release this version as it is for many reasons and the main one is because we've got here around thousand users using it in more than 30 different sites using different OS and browsers and they won't hesitate to complain as soon as they start to work with this new version.

The first look at the new version 6.0 using my default browser (Firefox) hasn't been great and it's not just one or two issues so I just made that comment and I will wait to upgrade where I can be happy enough with the whole product and I will report minor issues as soon as I see them.
