IE 5.5 SP2 Failure Final Update...

Here is the low down on my IE 5.5 posts. This post if for Cute soft clients or perspective clients.  The cute soft product does not work in the following environment:

    (IE 5.5 SP 2)
    5.50.4807.2300CO
    Update Versions: SP2; Q306121; Q313675; Q828750; Q824145; Q832894; Q867801

It does work in this environment:
    (IE 5.5 SP 2)
    5.50.4807.2300
    Update Versions: SP2; Q316059

    Adam
You asked me my exact environment.  I gave it to you, it was the first one described above.  You said it was working in this environment, I told you it wasnt (amoung other things) Why did you not:

a..Apply the appropriate updates and test?
    or
b..Tell me sorry we do not wish to apply the updates.  It can not, or we do not wish to spend the time making it work in your environment.

Instead by email you told me "I will have to remove your negative posts from our forums"  and offered me a refund.  I have not looked and I dont care if you have removed my posts.  Next time I suggest you be more honest and precise about what you ask for and what you say.  You did not apply the IE updates but insisted it worked, you were wrong.

You are so damn helpful.  In  future dont be afraid to say, we cant make it work for you.  People (especially fellow programmers) will appreciate this more than being run around in circles.  Additionaly if I ask questions, I expect answers - even if the answer is I dont know.  I always address questions that are asked of me as best I can.

You want this editor to be the best on line.  Leave factual posts in place and address questions that are asked.  An answer of I dont know beats no answer.

    Re: IE 5.5 SP2 Failure Final Update...RE-VISITED 2006...

    Adam

good day.  Its been a while.....

The sharpness of your product (XP IE 6.0) seems to have over shadowed its failure in the environment illustrated in this (and my many other posts NT IE 5.5 [updates according to these posts])

Onto a new version that works and resolves our outstanding issue, great!!  I have a question regarding:

License files are permanent, once you get the IP@ on your file, you can't change/replace it. If you are going through a transition period such as development/testing phase or change to a different webhost/webserver shortly, please let us know and you will be given a up-to-3-months temporary license for it so that you can save the IP@ space for production

I wish to run it locally for now.  It seems you have complicated your process with these new license rules.  Am I going to have problems testing your new version 5.1 remotely?

    More specifically
1..Do you not cater for people who run a development environent that does not have a http://localhost/appname/ address?
2..Why can we not change this licence file?

    Re: IE 5.5 SP2 Failure Final Update...RE-VISITED 2006...

you are kidding - version five does not work in this environment (No need to write it out again)

    Did you test it??????????????????????
With the Updates to IE 5.5 I have specified?????????????

Should we get our $150 Upgrade money back or are you prepared to replicate my environment and get it working like you said it was?

It fails in the same way - the editor does not post values.  It seems the spell checker does work in my production environment however we have our original problem back .  You can not claim your product works with IE 5.5+ This means you have tested all patches, you have not - very frustrated!!

    Re: IE 5.5 SP2 Failure Final Update...RE-VISITED 2006...

This is a snippet from my original post.

It fails to work in this environment with the listed updates
    (IE 5.5 SP 2)
    5.50.4807.2300CO
    Update Versions: SP2; Q306121; Q313675; Q828750; Q824145; Q832894; Q867801

It does work in this environment:
    (IE 5.5 SP 2)
    5.50.4807.2300
    Update Versions: SP2; Q316059

Your screen shot does not have any of these updates applied.  you told me you replicated my environment, why?  You clearly have not.  The problem is (and always have been):

    1.  No information gets posted from the editor to the destination page

We are going around in the same circle again...

We did apply those updates your mentions. We have many test machines. The screenshot I post is captured in a Win98.

    >>We are going around in the same circle again...
    No.

5.50.4807.2300CO is a customized version of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

To help me resolve the issue, please try the steps below:

    1. Create a simple test.asp page which only contains the editor. And set the CuteEditor AutoConfigure property to Minimal.

    2. Visit the above page in your browser. Right-click, choose View Source and copy all the HTML code.

    3. Send the HTML code to me or paste it here.

I will find out what caused the problem.

I fail to understand why you would post a screen shot that is irrelavent to my problem, what was the purpose of this?

Anyhow in a bid to get this resloved here is the screen shot of the browser that fails to post values.  The spell checker works and has always worked in this version of IE and the Win 2000 Server the pages reside on.  I will also follow your instructions from your last post in my next post

    Re: IE 5.5 SP2 Failure Final Update...RE-VISITED 2006...

I've actually ran into this problem.  This is a custom version of IE.  You can tell because the version ends in 'CO'.  The problem with customized version of IE, especially with 5.5, is that that to keep the customization certain DLL are marked as read-only, do not update.  Not matter how many updates you run, the customized DLL will not update.  Dell was well know for creating custom versions which had a Dell throbber and lock you into using a branded search page.

Unfortunately, people who have these customized versions have gapping security hole and don't even know it.  There is a VBS/JScript function called getobject() which will allow nefarious websites to quietly install ActiveX controls.  Microsoft came out with a partial patch, and then withdrawn it in few days.  The patch turned off all scripting and removed all security zones, sometimes making a client’s machine unusable.

So what does this mean for Cute Editor?  IMHO I really don't think Cute Soft can do anything about it.  Those custom DLL's may have scripting functions removed or changed in ways that only the original programmer from 5 years ago would know about.  To be honest Cute Soft most likely didn't know about this issue.  Microsoft didn't formally acknowledge this issue, they just issued low level security advisories and said don't use custom version of IE, they're not cover in your ULA.

As a side note, Microsoft changed the way they allowed customization after 6.0.26XX (the first public version of IE 6.) IE 6.0.2600.0000CO has the same issues as 5.50.4807.2300CO.

    Re: IE 5.5 SP2 Failure Final Update...RE-VISITED 2006...

Very interesting.  FYI This is a defence SOE.  The cute soft guys had the potentioal to get thier product into one of the biggest wide area networks in Australia.  I am appreciative at Aams help however frustrated at his failure to continually answer direct questions.  BTW 'I dont know' is a good enough answer, failure to address a question is insulting.  This problem has made my development look inapt and troublesome around very high ranking officers who have massive IT budgets.  Lucky for me we have so many other business systems in there working well, this is why we continue to be the prefered contractors.

The SOE is currently still running NT/lotus notes etc...(yes amazing)  Half of the network has rolled over to XP and outlook however the intended date of completion has not been identified yet.  Any systems we build (classic ASP) must comply with this customized version and of course IE 6.0 for those who already have XP boxes.  I have allot of client side code working in this environment, graphing .dlls - .ocx files and various other things that that work.  Adam has known the specific details of our environment for some time now.  he even knew the potential of getting it working for us.

I would like a refund of our upgrade from 4.0 to 5.0 - I will keep a license for 4.0 however will be removing your product from the test area of the Defence Restricted network.  You told me v 5.0 would work for us, it doesnt therefore a refund is the best course of action IMO, wahts your thoughts on this?

Have you given up on thos post?  Can you please address this.  Your product does not work in my environment.  Not to mention the fact you said you replicated it, therefore:
